An Afternoon with Agnes Sandahl

While on vacation in the south of France I had dinner on the most exquisite plates. Of course I had to have them. And so began my pilgrimage to Agnes Sandahl's most gorgeous, warm, beautiful and remarkable atelier in Vallauris, deep in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. My journey into her studio and my afternoon spent with her will be forever one of the most memorable days of my life.

Her factory hosts one of the village’s oldest kilns, built in 1850. This kiln was used by Picasso to create over 80 ceramic pieces. To know Agnes and to dine on her plates is truly living an artist's experience. Her plates are ones that promise an exquisite meal to come.

Her work also includes commissions of table settings for Michelin Star chefs such as Joel Robuchon and Eric Frechon, Hotels such as Hotel Du Cap Eden Roc and Le Bristol Paris, as well as royal families across the globe.

She invited my husband and I up to her private studio where she paints her larger pieces. She turned to me and said " do you want to see how I paint?" and proceeded to turn the music up very loud and just started dancing. Her hand floated through the air as if a paintbrush were in it and I was enveloped by the music and the colors in her paintings.

I feel honored to have the privilege to showcase her beautiful ceramic pieces on These Entertaining People.
